Terry & Andi

We thought you might want to know a little more about us.

Well my name is Andi and I’m originally from Nottingham in the UK. I met my husband, Terry, over 15 years ago – it was his dream to retire to Spain…

Living in Spain

Living in another country was something I hadn’t really thought about, but I decided to keep an open mind. After visiting some of Spain’s wonderful cities and experiencing the culture and its people, my mind was won over.

Our first foray in Spain was to buy a holiday apartment. We chose to visit as many times as possible.  Two years passed and we took the decision to plunge deeper. We enjoyed spending time in the glorious climate. Our next search began!

We spent the next few months visiting numerous properties. Nothing really took our fancy until I saw what is now our beautiful home and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Valley of Ricote

Our first visit to the beautiful Valley of Ricote (or Valle de Ricote in Spanish) in 2016 was one of excitement and trepidation.

Just 25 minutes’ drive from Murcia, we drove past magnificent ridgeback mountains and down a winding road. This leads to a picturesque green valley.  The scenery is one of dramatic mountains overlooking a cool meandering river surrounded by lush plantation.

Nestled within the stunning landscape is a small, historic village, which traces its origins back to the Moors.

Welcome to Ulea

My curiosity grew. My heart filled with joy from taking the initial step into the traditional ramshackle house. It had been left empty for years, but that didn’t matter.  I knew it would be our future home.

Now it hasn’t all been a bed of roses by any stretch of the imagination.  We spent months transforming the house and overcoming hurdles. No mean feat when no-one in the village speaks English.  Neither my husband nor I speak fluent Spanish. I am learning and my husband knows the essentials such as ‘cerveza por favor’!  But our wonderful Spanish neighbours and friends have taken us under their wings. They have supported us through good times and bad.  And every time I step outside, I experience contentment, peace and tranquillity that most of us could only dream of.

So why not take the opportunity to visit us in this adorable part of the country. You can experience Spain as you probably never have before?  We are privileged to call this wonderful part of the world our home. We look forward to meeting you soon.
